Baked Bean Diet

A Bowel Friendly Baked Bean Diet

Of all the diets out there, the baked bean diet has got to be the most unusual.  Many Americans love baked beans, but when considering that is the only thing you would eat it sounds risky.  There are a lot of men and women out there who have tried different diet methods like Weight Watchers, Nutri-System, and have used products like Slim Fast, but some of these diets seem so unbalanced.

The baked bean diet is actually a diet that was created by Neil King, a man from England who was told he was at risk for bowel cancer.  King was a hefty guy though before he started his diet, weighing in at around 420 pounds.  With the help of his new found diet and love of baked beans he was able to shed around 140 pounds.

Neil King just simply took something he enjoyed and learned a little bit about it.  Baked beans are high fiber as are many of the beans we eat, but these are his favorite.   The English usually have a pretty big breakfast, so he was used to having eggs and bacon or sausage, along with his toast in the morning.   In the afternoon he would eat a can of stewed tomatoes, and was quite a beer drinker for the rest of the day.  This diet wasn’t working in his favor so King had to come up with a plan.

The baked bean diet consists of King eating six cans of baked beans every day.  Can you imagine?  The high fiber content in the baked beans is essentially the trick.  Any diet high in fiber will not only make you feel fuller, but it will start to cleanse the body as well.  It sounds like you would be in the bathroom all day, but in order to repair the body the body has to start eliminating toxins.  One of the best ways to do this is by drinking a lot of water and eating a diet that is very high in fiber.  The baked bean diet is no doubt one of the highest in fiber out there.

Another gentleman by the name of James Skeates didn’t think this was a crazy idea either.  Skeates’ weight wasn’t nearly as high as Kings, but he did see the need to drop the pounds.  He weighed 266 pounds before he started, and dropped down to 190 with his version of the baked bean diet.  Skeates only had two large cans a day with other things on his plate, but he kept watching the pounds fall off.  The high fiber is definitely the trick, and although there are other ways to get fiber into your diet, you can pick from several types of beans if you want to try it.

The baked bean diet is rich in many nutrients, so it would be hard not to lose on this diet.  They are not only high in fiber, but they are also rich in iron, folate, potassium, copper, zinc and vitamin B-6.  These are all contributing factors to stellar health.  The iron is good for your blood, the potassium is great for your water balance, folate is good for calorie content so it fills you quickly, copper and zinc are both good for the immune system and vitamin b-6 is good for reducing stress levels and good brain food.  These beans seem to cover a lot of ground, and to think that for most of us this is a dish that we consider being served at picnics and grill outs.

So, whether you want to lose weight, or just add more fiber to your diet baked beans are a great choice.  Just be careful that you don’t overeat them, you might spend some time on the royal throne.
